Islington Group Practices

Two of our GP practices in Islington are in the top five in the borough for carrying out full annual checks for type 2 diabetics according to the latest national figures.

The average proportion of patients with type 2 diabetics in London receiving these checks stands at 41%. Across all 32 GP practices in Islington, the average was 41%.

For the two practices operated by us in Islington, the percentages were: Hanley Primary Care Centre with 75% and Mitchison Road Surgery was the top performer with 80%.

The data comes from the most recent National Diabetes Audit, published in December 2021, which covers January 2020 – March 2021. This audit measures the percentage of patients with type 2 diabetes who receive a complete annual review covering eight main checks, including blood pressure and blood glucose levels.

“For our patients with type 2 diabetes, these checks are essential to help manage the disease and prevent more serious complications developing. All the evidence shows that patients who have these regular checks are likely to have longer and healthier lives.

“We had a tried and tested approach for type 2 diabetes in place before the pandemic hit. Our teams have worked tirelessly to maintain these regular checks despite the Covid challenges because caring for the growing number in our communities with type 2 diabetes is a priority for us and across the NHS.”
